How Destinations and Hotels Are Audited

Independently audited holiday destinations and hotels for travellers over 50, using a 5-point destination check and 8-point hotel filter.

Research that moves past simplified promotions found in standard brochures to provide reliable, first-hand facts—the practical realities that actually matter for a successful, stress-free holiday.

Destination Criteria

In the full PDF guides, every location is evaluated against five essential checks that standard travel guides routinely omit:

  • Pedestrian Infrastructure: Surface quality, gradients, bench frequency, street lighting, and shade layouts are physically assessed.
  • Friction-Free Logistics: Airport departure and arrival dynamics, transit gate bottlenecks, luggage handling, and exact timing differences between shared coach and private transfers are analysed.
  • Border Realities: The practical impacts of changing international travel rules, including the rollout of biometric tracking (EES) and digital travel passes (ETIAS), are broken down.
  • Healthcare Infrastructure: The closest state and private hospitals are located, local GP/pharmacy locations and prescription processes are clarified, and English-language proficiency levels are verified.
  • Authentic Dining: Traditional, independent establishments favoured by residents are explicitly sought out, while overpriced tourist traps are filtered out.

8-Point Hotel Filter

Before a hotel is recommended in the PDF guides, it must first be bookable through both Jet2holidays and easyJet holidays to guarantee UK ATOL financial protection; it must also hold a minimum of 500 verified independent guest reviews from the preceding 12 months.

  • Walk: Flat-ground walking distances to local amenities or explicit local bus route metrics.
  • Wellness: Availability of indoor heated pools and professional spa treatments.
  • A/C: Availability of individual room climate controls and winter heating options.
  • Showers: Verification of walk-in showers vs. default shower-over-bath configurations.
  • Twin: Availability of verified twin-bed layouts and guaranteed private balconies or terraces.
  • Quiet: Clear labelling of adults-only exclusivity, dedicated adult zones, or family focuses.
  • Lift: Full passenger elevator access to all floors and step-free grounds.
  • Solo: Presence of dedicated single-occupancy rooms, fair supplement pricing, and inclusive, comfortable communal dining environments.

This framework ensures that every guide is built entirely on first-hand facts rather than standard travel promotions. The goal is straightforward: cut through the marketing noise, eliminate the guesswork, and provide clear peace of mind for your next holiday.
